What you need to know about Windows 10

I bet you are excited about upgrading to Windows 10 right. Well maybe you will be more exited to know that this upgrade will be free if you upgrade within one year of the release.. so upgrade before July 29, 2016 :). This will not be a trial.. no, it will be free forever on the device that you install the upgrade on. So this sounds all exciting right? Well it might be, but let us go through some more details on Windows 10 before you make that update.

Windows will be free for devices running Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1. So be sure to have the latest Windows updates on your device prior to the update. As with most upgrades to a new OS, some applications and settings will not migrate. Some applications that came from your OEM may be removed prior to the upgrade. Your Anti-Virus will be checked by Windows to see if your subscription is current. Windows will uninstall your application prior to upgrade then install the latest version with the settings that were set prior to the upgrade. Its important to know that if your subscription is not current, the upgrade will enable Windows Defender. Now for the interesting part of things.. our Third Party Apps. Windows says the “Get Windows 10” app will scan for application compatibility and if there is an issue that will prevent the upgrade you will be notified. You can then choose to accept the installation by having the applications removed. So ensure to copy the list of incompatible applications so you can reinstall them later after the upgrade.

You can then choose to accept the installation by having the applications removed.

With the upgrade you will lose some applications and features that you may use in Windows 7 & 8. One of the biggest being the removal of the Windows Media Center (which I personally never use). So yeah.. you are not losing much in applications. Your Gadgets in WIndows 7 will also be removed due to the upgrade. Some of us who likes to have control over our updates will be sad to know that Windows will automatically download and install updates whether you like it or not. Thats if you will be using Windows 10 Home. If you upgrade to Windows 10 Pro you will have the option to defer updates.

So the Question now is… Who gets Home and who gets Pro?

This table will explain:
